27/07/2010 Ageism 'still occurring in tax recruitment'Ageism is still a problem among many organisations, it has been stated.

Rachel Krys, campaign director for the Employers Forum on Age, pointed out that although there is legislation is place to avoid prejudice in tax recruitment, this is not always enough.

She said that if people in their 50s get made redundant they will often find it much harder to secure a new job.

However, Ms Krys said this should not be the case and many older employees still feel they are well-qualified for positions, although they often do not make it past the short-list stages.

She pointed out that many companies have "struggled to realise that a team made up of identikit people is not the strongest option".

Her comments come after figures published by the Department of Communities and Local Government revealed three per cent of people felt they had been discriminated against because of their age in 2009-2010.
