Businesses 'complacent over security'

17/06/2010 Businesses 'complacent over security' Businesses are not putting enough thought into their network security, a new report has concluded.

It was carried out by PricewaterhouseCoopers and discovered many organisation are adopting an 'it won't happen to me' approach.

According to the research, the traditional approach of companies is to try and solve technical issues with technical solutions, but one expert fears this system may be misjudged.

Craig Lunnon of the firm's OneSecurity branch thinks these types of response are often given for people problems.

"Although technical defence is vital, systems are inherently vulnerable to both negligent and malicious acts by people. Ignorance, confusion, anger or even curiosity can all give rise to incidents," he added.

The specialist remarked security-aware workers are in a good position to spot any problems that may occur.

Max Hammond, consultant at Curtis+Cartwright, recently observed businesses can take advantage of cloud computing in order to boost efficiency, especially small-to medium-sized enterprises.
