Businesses 'to get access' to finance

09/06/2010 Businesses 'to get access' to financeThe news the government plans to make access to finance a priority for businesses is welcome, an expert has said.

Adam Marshall, director of policy at the British Chambers of Commerce - which describes itself as the national voice of local business - noted that the importance of "improving working relationships" between companies and the banking sector has become obvious over the last 18 months.

He added a "sensible conversation" is required so demands over both supply and demand can be heard.

"While many firms have a good relationship with their bank, there are problems around centralised decision making [and] poor local service provision in some areas," the specialist remarked.

Mr Marshall observed uncertain economic conditions are also stopping smaller firms from seeking credit.

Earlier this week, Max Hammond, a consultant at Curtis+Cartwright, noted small and medium-sized enterprises could become more efficient if they were to embrace cloud computing.
