Nick Main has been appointed as global managing partner for climate change and sustainability at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.

Mr Main, who will be based at the audit jobs provider's offices in London, will be responsible for offering assistance to firms on laws and regulations relating to emissions and providing advice on improving sustainability.

Prior to taking on the new role, he was chairman and chief executive officer of Deloitte New Zealand and his appointment was welcomed by global managing partner of services at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Jerry Leamon.

"Nick's experience with climate change and sustainability issues from both client service and public policy perspectives will be critical to Deloitte member firm professionals," he remarked.

Mr Main added that firms are becoming increasingly required to implement practices that will reduce their emissions without compromising growth so they can maintain a "competitive advantage".

Deloitt presently employs around 169,000 people globally, with its member firms providing audit, tax and advisory services across 140 countries.
