Enterprise risk management 'of growing concern'

14/01/2010 Enterprise risk management 'of growing concern'UK businesses appear to be increasingly concerned with enterprise risk management (ERM) practices and risk recruitment, as research has revealed that the number of those with advanced programs has increased from three per cent to seven per cent between 2007 and 2010.

The Global Enterprise Risk Management Survey, conducted by Aon - which claims to be a leading provider of insurance, risk management services and reinsurance brokerage - found that 62 per cent of those asked believe they have moved beyond basic approaches.

This figure compares to 38 per cent of respondents who felt this way in 2007 and senior consultant for the company Scott Nicholl noted that ERM can help firms plan for the future.

"[ERM is] a vital part of an organisation's armour to both provide immediate value in today's challenging economy and beyond," he said.

And global leader of ERM for the firm Laura Taylor stated that comprehension of risk can help organisations make decisions aligned with strategic and operating plans, as well as external environments.
