A total of 12 new partners joined Ernst & Young in the UK during the first quarter of the financial year and more are expected to arrive before Christmas, the tax jobs provider has said.

It has moved to boost its tax, advisory and financial operations services over the quarter and three of the new partners have joined from competitors.

All except one are to be based at the firm's office in London and managing partner of Ernst & Young in the UK Scott Halliday said he was "delighted" to welcome the new employees.

Noting that the company is committed to recruiting talent in spite of the current difficult financial climate, he observed that over a third of the arrivals are women, meaning the firm has hired 12 female partners and promoted a further 14 in the past 15 months.

Ernst & Young also announced the promotions of employees to director level in Leeds, with Geoff Ranson and Ben Evans both being moved up to the position.
