Flexible working 'can be beneficial for businesses'

04/06/2010 Flexible working 'can be beneficial for...Companies looking to employ individuals should consider implementing flexible working arrangements, an expert has claimed.

Stephen Alambritis, a spokesman for the Federation of Small Businesses, noted that firms need to be versatile

"It fits the needs and demands of staff and employers, and staff are more productive if they are able to have a say in their hours of work," he added.

The specialist added two-thirds of small and medium-sized enterprises currently offer flexible working practices and not just to parents.

Mr Alambritis accepted it is not possible for every line of work, but for desk-based jobs offering remote or homeworking options should be a serious consideration.

He remarked small firms have the best opportunity to take advantage of the measure and they should implement whatever is in the best interest of the business.

His comments come after a report by the Warwick Business School found flexible and responsive managerial practices are the most commonly adapted measures for success.
