University graduates looking to enter a career in the financial services sector should turn their focus away from London, it has been suggested.

According to head of recruitment at PricewaterhouseCoopers Sonja Stockton, those seeking such roles should consider positions in a variety of different locations, advice that may be useful to graduates that are seeking tax jobs.

Noting that the present economic climate means candidates will have to be flexible in terms of location and sector, she stated: "Your career can start anywhere so long as you are picking up the right skills that contribute to your career in the long term."

Ms Stockton added that many graduates still see the capital as "the only place" to begin a job in the finance sector and urged them to look at what is available in places such as the south-east, West Midlands and the north-east.

Her advice comes after chief executive of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation Kevin Green argued that there are signs of recovery in the current employment market.
