People seeking risk jobs may be encouraged to hear that corporate governance and compliance procedures are becoming more important to institutional investors.

This is according to Todd Groome, chairman of the Alternative Investment Management Association, who noted in an article for the Financial Times that these organisations are prioritising risk-related infrastructures within their firms.

He stated: "This can be seen in the use of risk management practices and systems, compliance procedures, performance and risk reporting, governance structures and overall operational sophistication."

Mr Groome went on to add that those in investment circles are keen to put money into strengthening their business in these key areas.

While this may be a fairly expensive exercise, he explained, many realise the benefits outweigh the price considerations.

His comments come just days after Pars Purewal of PricewaterhouseCoopers claimed risk jobs are more valuable to hiring managers in the current climate, with companies said to be struggling to fill positions.
