More M&As to take place in 2010

17/02/2010 More M&As to take place in 2010 The possibility of increased mergers and acquisitions (M&As) is brighter for 2010 after last year saw the amount of activity drop to its lowest level for six years.

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) announced that only £70 billion-worth of deals were completed in 2009 - compared to £155 billion in 2008.

But Nick Page, partner at PwC, stated that a "restructuring-led wave of deal activity" would gather greater momentum in the financial services industry and would be combined with a resurgence in M&A action in 2010.

"The lion's share of deal activity will sit with the private sector during 2010," remarked Shaun McNamee, also a partner, as many governments plan how they will be exiting bank share holdings.

KPMG's Global M&A Predictor recently revealed that the sector was set to bounce back - with earning forecasts now appearing to be more realistic and sensible when contrasted with those that were released 12 months ago.
