International companies are more upbeat about future economic prospects and half (51 per cent) predict recovery next year, a new report has revealed.

A survey by KPMG suggested that eight out of ten respondents forecast revival by 2011, while 11 per cent expected it to take place as early as this year.

Half of the 852 senior decision makers polled stated that they had changed their strategy in response to the downturn, with those in the Asia Pacific region most likely to adopt radical new policies in the wake of the recession, a fact that may be of interest to those seeking risk management jobs.

Sue Bonney, KPMG Europe head of tax, said the survey suggested that "many companies are facing a radical overhaul of their corporate strategy to reflect the rapidly changing world".

However, UK businesses were more pessimistic than the global sample, with most not expecting economic recovery before 2011.

Meanwhile, a recent survey by Grant Thornton indicated that many UK entrepreneurs are reducing the size of their workforces in order to weather the current recession.
