PwC backs London wage move

10/06/2010 PwC backs London wage moveAn increase in the London Living Wage has been backed by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), which announced it is implementing the change.

Head of business services Steve Sherwood explained the firm has been a supporter of the voluntary minimum payment for those working in the capital since it was introduced.

PwC cleaning staff will receive the 25p increase announced by mayor Boris Johnson, as the Big Four company has renewed its commitment.

In addition to improving the earning potential of contracted workers, Mr Sherwood said the wage "has helped improve their standard of living and terms and conditions of employment, by extending benefits such as holidays and sick pay to staff as well".

According to PwC, its turnover of contracted employees has been cut from four per cent to one per cent since the London Living Wage was implemented in 2006.

Meanwhile, the Recruitment and Employement Confederation and KPMG have found permanent staff placements in the UK increased last month.
