PricewaterhouseCoopers' (PwC) has come fourth in the Sunday Times Best Big Companies survey.

Voted seventh last year, the improvement is a result of "our people's commitment to making PwC the leading professional services firm", according to chairman Ian Powell.

The company was also nominated in the Best for Leadership and Best for Innovation in Engagement categories and for the third year running the organisation was given a two-star rating for outstanding performance.

Mr Powell noted that the firm had "rolled out a company-wide women's leadership scheme" as well as continuing with its professional development programme.

A poll carried out found that 82 per cent of staff are proud to work at PwC, while 80 per cent said that they found the work to be stimulating and that the experiences fostered at the institution would help them in later life.

It was recently revealed that it had managed to jump seven places in the 2010 Business Superbrands study, managing to make it into the top ten.
