There has been a potential increase in the number of audit jobs available in the UK, the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG Report on Jobs has revealed.

It showed an increase in both the number of permanent and temporary or contract staff finding work over the course of December - the fifth month in a row that the number of appointments has been on the rise.

The increase in activity has been attributed to a hardening demand for staff, with companies hiring temporary or contract staff at a rate not seen for 22 months.

REC chief executive Kevin Green said that the recovery of the UK jobs market is accelerating the further we go into 2010.

"Despite the increase in demand for both temporary and permanent staff, the jobs market will remain extremely competitive, particularly for younger candidates," he explained.

Work Wise UK recently predicted that the number of jobless individuals is likely to peak at 2.8 million this year.
