Smith & Williamson has announced that Phillip Lawlor has joined as investment strategist, it has been stated.

He is hoping to bring his "asset allocation and portfolio construction" to the company as he offers guidance on the political and economic developments that may affect the markets.

Mr Lawlor has been working in investment for over 20 years and for the last six years he has been the chief portfolio strategist at Nomura International.

Head of investment management at the company David Cobb noted that he is "delighted" to be improving the quality of people working within this particular arm of the organisation.

The group will be looking to build on the success of last year when it was named as the Investment House of the Year for 2009/10 from the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners.

It recently advised businesses that bundling together its outsourced activities could save up to 40 per cent a year on running costs.
