US business confidence 'reaches pre-recession levels'

09/06/2009 US business confidence 'reaches pre-recession levels'...Business confidence in the US has risen to levels last seen before the onset of recession, a new survey has indicated.

Grant Thornton's quarterly Business Optimism Index rose to 54.5 in May, up from 37.6 in February and above pre-recession levels.

The poll - which questioned over 320 senior executives from a range of sectors - suggested that attitudes towards the US economy have improved.

Over half (54 per cent) of the participants said they believe the recession will end in the first half of 2010, while 45 per cent felt that conditions will pick up over the next six months.

In addition, 62 per cent stated that they feel optimistic about their companies' growth prospects for the coming six months, something that could be a positive indicator for professionals seeking advisory jobs abroad.

Meanwhile, in Britain, the Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets Business Barometer has shown that confidence rose in May among UK firms.
