Women with tax jobs could welcome salary transparency

19/07/2010 Women with tax jobs could welcome salary...Professional women in the UK are likely to welcome greater transparency in salaries, one sector commentator has claimed.

Indeed, females with tax jobs may be happy to hear that the new ruling on transparency is due to come into effect with the Equality Act in October.

This will see laws surrounding pay secrecy being lifted.

Commenting on the news, Kate Grussing, spokesperson for the City Women's Network and the co-founder and managing director of Sapphire Partners, said it could only be a good thing, in terms of compensation now being available in a standard format.

However, she added that drawing up quotas on the number of women employed on boards - which the European Commission revealed it is considering - is likely to be a contentious issue as no female would want to take up this position simply because she makes up required numbers.

"Our members are divided on quotas and what we need to focus on is greater transparency of how the board appointments are made so that women are on the shortlist where they deserve to be," Ms Grussing explained.
