Providing opportunities for practical experience of work will help both jobseekers and employers, an expert has noted.

According to Jenni Newberry, head of communities at Working Links, the government's plan to invest in work experience programmes will give a significant boost to employment prospects.

Those seeking risk jobs may be set to benefit, as the Future Jobs Fund has been allocated around £1 billion for 150,000 vacancies.

Young people who have been unable to find work or training for a year will be supported and Ms Newberry explained that upskilling them will ensure they are better prepared.

In addition, she suggested that employers will feel more confident about taking on someone with work experience.

The expert also said that the economy will benefit from the helping young people into work, adding: "It is vital that we make sure that we don't find quick-fix solutions, but that we find them sustainable employment."
